All Aboard the Potty Train!

Hallelujah! We are finally on board the potty train! Caleb started his new daycare last Monday, and we couldn't be happier with it for a variety of reasons, which I may write about someday.

Right now the most exciting thing is that his new teachers really encouraged us to push him to potty train. I had lengthy conversation with his teacher, Miss Amanda, last Friday afternoon in which I explained that we've tried everything and he's just not mentally ready even though he clearly can physically do it. I told her that if he's naked he'll sit on the potty as a last resort, but as long as there is something to catch the pee, he's perfectly fine just letting it go. I really thought that I was going to have to eventually take a week off from work to potty train the kid. But to my great surprise, Miss Amanda said that we could start sending him in underwear to school and they would deal with the messes until he figured it out.

So, on Sunday we started here at home having him in undies all day. He did have a few accidents, but a few successes also. Monday at daycare he had two accidents and zero successes. Monday night at home was more of the same. I was beginning to think that we were going to have to give up and start again in a month or two.

Overnight we've been putting him in a cloth diaper, and Tuesday morning he woke up dry. He ran around naked for a few minutes before finally sitting down on the potty to pee. Still, I feared we'd have a repeat of Monday when he went to daycare. I was shocked when I went in to pick him up to find him still wearing the same clothes he was in when I left for work. Two potty attempts, two successes!

After refusing to go potty on Tuesday night before bed, I thought for sure that he'd wake up with a soaked cloth diaper. I mean the kid hadn't peed since 2:45pm the previous day. Again he woke up dry. Bladder of steel! And he once again had a success on the potty this morning before heading to school.

Now, you may have noticed that I haven't mentioned good old #2. Monday night I caught him making "the face" so I immediately put him on the potty to finish. Then...nothing until he had an accident this morning at daycare...It's Wednesday people! Colon of steel!

But despite that, he had another pee success at daycare today. Then tonight, for the first time, he went over to the potty, pulled down his own pants, and went pee! Woo hoo! This kid is filling up his sticker chart quickly, and before we know it we'll be heading to Toys 'R Us to pick out his big reward.

I bit the bullet and put him to bed in undies tonight, so hopefully I won't be woken up to change the sheets. But if that does happen, I'm prepared to admit that I may have rushed that.

Here's hoping the rest of the week continues with more progress. We could be diaper free by the age of three!

PS. Anyone need any size 5 diapers or size 6 overnight diapers? We have tons!

Great job mom and Caleb!!! Looks like jumping in has worked really well! Most boys I know potty train right around 3... we just had some super early ones in our mom's group! That is so exciting to stop buying and changing diapers- hopefully the dry trend continues!
