Caleb's Closet

You may have noticed my new button on the sidebar, and if you click on it you'll link to a page with all my crafty projects. How did I get to this point?...

I've been fortunate in life that almost everything has come easily to me. Enter 6th grade Home Ec, and it was no different. I immediately LOVED sewing. A year later, my grandmother bought me my first sewing machine for Christmas, and I made a few things in the year that followed. Then, like any other Christmas present in childhood, it was forgotten. During my junior year of college I walked the aisles of Walmart one night {let's face it, there wasn't much to do in Selinsgrove} and I stumbled onto the fabric in the craft section. I decided to make my version of a quilt for my sister for Christmas. It was a strange shape {very long and skinny} and extremely thick since I had used fleece for both the front and back. But it wasn't too hard, and it inspired me to get back into sewing. A few years later I made another quilt for my best friend and her husband as a wedding present, and then I made several more as gifts for some of the participants in my own wedding.

When I was pregnant with Caleb I knew that I wanted to make him a baby blanket, and so I again pulled out my old sewing machine to complete the project. But that ended up being the last project for that machine. It was old, cheap, and let's face it, I hadn't taken very good care of it over the years. It had been beat up. I think I mentioned before that I received a new machine this past Christmas from my mother-in-law and father-in-law, and as you've seen in the past, I have definitely put it to good use. Recently I decided to set up a Facebook page to display all of my creations and to maybe take a few orders for things from friends.

A good friend from my mommy group contacted me to make this dress for her daughter, Evie.

After she posted a picture of it on Facebook, I received my first order from a scratched friend of a friend. A HUGE order for 4 dresses. Super exciting, and I had a blast making all these different pieces.

Definitely NOT setting the world on fire here with my "earnings," {I barely break even after fabric and supplies} and I certainly don't expect to ever be able to do this full time. But I do find it fun to be able to sell some of my creations, and have something productive to do with my free time.

They are so cute Becki. I'll be placing an order for my nieces for Christmas gifts this year.
