About a month ago it became apparent that Caleb loves everything having to do with transportation (cars, trucks, planes, you name it!). While we were in St. Louis, he thoroughly enjoyed playing with any toy that had a steering wheel. Since we really hadn't gotten him anything for Christmas, I was trying to figure out what I could buy for him that had a steering wheel. Then I remembered that my dad had gotten him this car for his birthday, and it was still sitting in the box in our guest room. Last week while Andrew was still off for the holidays, we decided to assemble it, and Caleb is having a blast with it so far.

He even knew exactly what to do with the cup holder right from the start. This video is from the second time he used it. The very first time he just popped it right in there without any prompting...crazy!

My in-laws got me this Brownie Mix Bliss cookbook for Christmas, and it is the devil! Man do they know me well, or what! We had invited another couple over for New Years Eve and were planning to go to another couple's house for New Years Day. I decided that since we'd be around so many people in the coming days that it would be a great time for me to try out a few recipes from the cookbook. Four boxes of brownie mix and a few hours later, we were surrounded by a pan each of Rum Brownies, Cookies & Cream Brownies, Gingerbread Brownies, and 3.5 dozen Triple Chocolate Oatmeal Brownies. This book is to a Chocoholic what drive-in liquor stores are to an Alcoholic...they just make it too darn easy to get your fix! All of the recipes in this book start with a prepackaged box of brownie mix. Add to that a few pantry and refrigerator staples (eggs, butter/oil, vanilla, etc.) and you end up with desserts that can be made at a moment's notice.

Sounds good, right? Ughh...no! It turns out that the guests who were coming over on NYE decided not to come for dinner and really didn't eat much while they were here. Then on New Year's Day, we ended up being the only couple at the party besides the hosts. Fortunately, we were sneaky and took a whole bunch to the party and managed to leave it there (Hi Cortney and Larry!). Unfortunately, we've still got about a pan and a half of random brownies and a dozen or so cookies sitting around. So much for New Year's Resolutions! I should have left the cookbook in St. Louis and brought my sewing machine back instead leaving me 10 pounds lighter and snuggled under a new quilt!

I've been meaning to post about our Christmas trip to St. Louis ever since we got back on Tuesday. I tried several times to upload pictures, but it was just too frustrating to sort through the pictures and then try to organize them on the blog. I decided to create a slideshow of the images and post that instead. So here's the montage of our trip, which included a visit to the train display at the Botanical Gardens, the Butterfly House, the Magic House (This place is AWESOME and makes the Phoenix Children's Museum look about as cool as our living room. Check out the website to see what I mean.), Christmas morning and Christmas dinner, and Caleb playing in the snow (we had a white Christmas!). The pictures are all out of order and intermixed (another task I didn't feel like taking on), but if you watch, you'll catch a glimpse of everything.
