I made Caleb two more shirts for the baseball games. Daddy calls these his "Saturday Shirt" and "Sunday Shirt."

"Saturday Shirt"

"Sunday Shirt"

Close up of the "Sunday Shirt"

Devils are 23-0 on the season, so the shirts must be good luck. Hence Caleb wears the same three shirts every Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon.

Here's the St. Patrick's Day shirt I made for Caleb and I actually made another for a friend in my first every sewing sale.

Random necktie shirt {aka my first applique project}

The other half of my first sale was this Easter shirt for Grace.

Easter shirt for Caleb

Shirt for Audrey that has yet to get in the mail because I have to figure out what I'm making for my nephew Nick. We can't have one of them receiving a package and not the other. Anyone have suggestions for T shirt designs for a 4 year old boy?

WARNING: The following is gross...I'm only writing about it for documentation purposes.

All evening Caleb was tooting - A LOT! I didn't think too much of it because he had already had 2 BMs today. After his bath, we got him in his room and as usual he jumped up just as I was working on getting his diaper. We were on the phone with Memaw as we got ready for bed, so when Caleb took off diaperless to find a book on the shelf, I just let him go. I saw him pick his penguin book and squat down to read flip through the pages....or so I thought. I turned my head and the next thing I know..."OH MY GOD! ANDREW!!!!!!" {He was in the bathroom cleaning up the bath toys and such.} Caleb had pooped in two different places on the floor. I quickly moved him out of the area, got out some wipes to clean his tush, and went to clean the poo off the floor. When Andrew came in the room, he noticed that Caleb had poop on his foot. So the whole time after I moved him out of the poo area, he had been walking around the room tracking poop. Here's the best part, Andrew leaves the room and returns with carpet cleaner...the very same carpet cleaner that we use to clean up after the cat. Nice!

Life is Amazing

Maybe it's the beautiful weather we're having. Maybe it's the fact that I feel so completely refreshed after a week off of work. Maybe it is because we're getting to spend so much time together as a family of three. Maybe it is because Caleb is at such an incredibly fun age right now. I honestly don't care what the reason, I have to say that I'm absolutely loving life right now. I've always been one who plans years in advance. I have to know what is going on. Right now, I can't see more than a few days ahead. I would have never thought that I'd be this happy with such an uncertain future. I'm living in the moment and for the moment, and I'm wondering why it took me so long to realize how wonderful it is. I find myself every now and then just sitting quietly while Caleb plays, and I'm trying with all my might to just take everything in. I love watching him turn the pages of a book and point to things. I love seeing his chubby little {or not so little} feet carry him around the house as he runs away from me in a game of tag. I love hearing him laugh and seeing all of his facial expressions. I love watching him soak up the world around him as he learns and grows every day. I don't want this age to go away. I want to freeze time and make memories of every little thing that happens.

This was taken by Cortney a few weeks ago when we went out with my mommy group.

Last week while I was off for spring break Caleb and I went for a ton of walks outside while Andrew studied for his LEED exam. Caleb LOVED our little nature walks. I love to see how fascinated he is with every little thing around him - rocks, grass, dirt, dog poop - it's amazing.

Something about grass is apparently hilarious!

Here's Caleb getting comfy while watching his signing video before bath one night.

I know I said I was going to write all about our fun spring break times, but the truth is that we didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. We took walks around the neighborhood, played in a bucket of water on the patio, went to the park, and got to visit with our friends a few times. I took a bunch of pictures and videos with my cell phone because that's what I had with me when life was happening. I gave myself permission at the beginning of the week to not do any work and most importantly to not feel guilty about it. So I was free to just completely enjoy the time with my little man. And enjoy it we did.

On Sunday right before I had to go back to work, Caleb took a 4.5 hour nap which allowed me to get work prepared for the week so I could go back on Monday without feeling stressed. {I regretted the long nap later when we tried putting him to bed for the night. Lesson learned, will never do that again.} I couldn't have asked for a better 9 days with just me, Andrew, and Caleb. Another week down, and now we're looking at only 6 more weeks of school after which I'm planning to spend the whole summer with Caleb. What could be better than that?

Yummy French Toast!

Last week we bought olive oil Italian bread with our basket, and decided to make french toast out of it on Sunday morning. I thought it sounded strange when Andrew suggested it (sweet french toast with olive oil bread??), but I went with it. I already had a copy of this recipe sitting around, so I decided to use it. OH MY GOSH...it was amazing. I promise it tasted MUCH better than it looks. I can't wait until they have this bread again. We used it all week as a side with dinner (made amazing garlic bread), and every time it was delicious.

I took all kinds of pictures and videos last week and planned to post about all the fun things that Caleb and I got to do together, but I'm not motivated to finish that post yet. In an effort to do a better job of keeping up with writing, here are some random thoughts/observations from the last few days.

*Do not let your child take a 4.5 hour nap ending at 5:15pm and then expect that he'll go back down at his normal bedtime at 7:30. This will most likely result in a 2 hour power struggle before the little man finally falls asleep.

*It is amazing how something as simple as wearing a pair of heels can completely change the way you feel about yourself {in a positive way}.

*Spring is, was, and always will be my favorite season no matter where I live and no matter how bad my allergies get.

*And because no post would be complete without a picture/video of Caleb...There is more than one use for a potty chair.

18 Months {The Details}

Stats:
Height - remained steady at 33.5" from three months ago (still 90th percentile). I find it very hard to believe that he hasn't gotten any taller in the last three months, just that the archaic measuring system they use ridiculously inaccurate for a kicking and screaming toddler.

Weight - Gained about 2 pounds since December now at 26lbs, 1oz (50th-75th percentile)

Shots - No immunizations this month, just a TB test which we'll check in two days to make sure he hasn't been exposed yet (freaking backwards United States refusing to vaccinate on this because then we wouldn't be able to test for it)!

Overall - He hated seeing the nurse, hated when she layed him down to measure him, hated when I took away "his" keys while he was weighed, hated when the doctor came in, and REALLY hated the TB test. But...he is getting two teeth (see below), was up at 5:30am (ohmygoshIamsotired!), and did sit still in his car seat without saying, "stuck" every 10 seconds while I ran a few errands after the appointment, so I headed to the McDonald's drive through and him his very first chocolate milk (and an iced vanilla coffee for mommy)!

A few seconds after I took this picture, the stuff was gone!

New Words: At the end of February we sat down and took inventory of all of the words that Caleb was saying to that point. It was somewhere around 130 words. For about a week after that we were pretty good about keeping track as new words popped up. Then we started to slack a bit again. But the list now stands at 193+. As you can see, he seems to be picking up ~10-20 words/week. I think you can click on this to make it larger.

New skills: Kicking and throwing {probably not so new, but definitely something that he's really enjoying now}. Running faster than ever. Trying oh-so-hard to jump but ends up doing something that looks more like a gallop. Swimming lessons are going GREAT despite the change of instructors twice since we began in September (and you know, Caleb's stranger anxiety). He's so, so close to being able to backfloat on his own, and he's become quite the little fish in the pool. He kicks his little legs as fast as he can to bring himself up to the surface, and is starting to be able to roll himself onto his back (with some obvious help from Mommy). He's even started using the word pool (don't think I have that on the list above - 194+ words) when we talk about going to swimming lessons.

Milestones: Last month I was wrong. He only had 1 new tooth (upper, right canine). The second upper canine came in this month and he's also on the verge of popping through both of the bottom canines. I suspect that the bottom right one will arrive within a week, and the other will definitely be here before next month's updates. Fingers crossed we should be done with teething for at least a few months after that and back to sleeping in a little later in the morning. Doc says that his teeth look great, and we'll start brushing with baby toothpaste this week.

Eating: Not doing too bad. There are definitely meals where he really doesn't eat a whole lot, but in the course of a day he will typically eat at least one really good meal.

Favorites: Still pretty obsessed with rabbits. I took him to see the Easter Bunny earlier this week since he loves bunnies so much, but apparently 6-foot tall bunnies are pretty scary! New obsession is gorillas thanks to Memaw. We {randomly} have several books with pictures of gorillas, and Caleb will find those books in the pile and demand "go-wil-wa." He also LOVES keys, but not just any keys. We used to be able to get away with giving him "Pop Pop's Keys" {a set of keys for my in laws cars that we keep at our house}. Now he knows that those keys don't do anything cool like, you know, set off the car alarms outside the house, or make the lights flash on mommy's car or cause the trunk to pop up. He insists on having our keys any time he so much as catches a glimpse of them or hears the shake. Which brings us to....

Toddlerhood! Not even a week ago I was having a conversation with some of my mommy friends telling them that Caleb rarely has tantrums, we think because he can communicate so well. Well, I should have knocked on some wood because we've been rocketed into full blown toddlerhood this week. Tantrums and outbursts have become a common occurrence. Today he kicked and screamed the whole way to the doctor's office (about 5-10 minute drive from our house) because I had to take my keys away from him so I could drive! It was definitely an adjustment the first few days, but Andrew and I had a talk about how we're going to deal with these outbursts, so we feel prepared moving forward.

All in all, Caleb is doing great. This is truly an awesome age/stage, as we get to watch Caleb soak up every little thing. I can't tell you how many times in a week I say, "I didn't know he knew that word/how to do that!" He's growing and changing everyday, and I just want to freeze time and have him stay this age forever. Hard to believe that we're well on our way to 2. I feel like I'm gonna blink and he'll be headed off to college. Even in the midst of those tantrums, I find that I'm continually reminding myself to cherish these moments, because they will be over all too soon!

Just posting pictures today. We've got Caleb's 18 month well visit on Friday, so I'll post all the updates then.

I tried a few times throughout the day today to get pictures of Caleb, but he just wouldn't sit still. Finally after dinner I had Andrew help us out. It started out as a struggle to even get him on the couch...

Then Andrew gave him keys...

And we remembered to throw the bear in the picture...

Not too bad for an active 18 month old!

Reflecting and Looking Ahead

On this day exactly 10 years ago today, Andrew and I went on our first date. I still remember it like it was yesterday.

September 1996
We met at the beginning of our sophomore year in high school in Mr. Labecki's honor's english class. Andrew sat behind me, and let's just say that I developed a little crush right then and there. Throughout high school we were friends, but never spent time together outside of school.

Fast forward to senior year of HS
I have a vivid memory of driving along in my old car (1986 Toyota Camry) with a group of my girlfriends. For some reason, the only person I clearly remember having the car is Katia who was in the back seat. Anyway, we were discussing whether or not we thought we had already met the person that we would marry. Not wanting to be a huge nerd, I said no. But in my mind (and in my heart) I thought it might be Andrew.

Fast forward to Freshman year of college
Andrew had gone away to school at ASU all the way across the country. One day in the fall, I was walking across campus at Susquehanna and saw a kid outside who was wearing his hat backwards (classic Andrew). Immediately, I thought of him and lamented that I'd probably not see him unless at a reunion. Through an interesting twist, my now ex-boyfriend who also went to HS with us ended up helping me to get in contact with Andrew. Hours and hours of phone calls, instant messages, and emails later we decided to go out on a date when our spring break vacations overlapped for a short weekend.

March 11, 2000
I left my sister's volleyball tournament early to drive from York to Harrisburg to meet up with Andrew, his best friend Chris and Leah (Chris's girlfriend at the time). After dinner and a movie and hours of talking we said good night. We survived three and a half years of super long distance followed by another year of relatively short long distance dating. And the rest is history.

I can't believe how quickly 10 years have passed. In some ways it seems like it has happened in the blink of an eye. Then I think about everything we've been through over these past 10 years, and I am so happy and so proud of how far we've come and everything that we've accomplished both as individuals and as a couple. Right now the future is very unclear, and we are in the midst one of the more difficult times in our relationship since Andrew is unemployed. But I can honestly say that I have never been happier with our life. I feel like in a lot of ways it has brought us closer together as we team up to navigate life's obstacles together. I am confident and have faith that things will turn around soon, and that we'll be able to get back on track with the plans we have for our future. I can't wait to find out what the next 10 years will bring our way! Happy Anniversary, Andrew!

Homemade Applesauce

We've been getting lots of apples in our Baskets over the past few weeks, and we just can't eat them fast enough.  At least not before they start to soften up beyond our liking.  I had been wanting to make some applesauce, but kept forgetting about it until I was well into the dinner prep.  Finally one night this week I made pork spare ribs, and decided applesause would be the perfect pairing.  I found this recipe and thought it was worth a try since it couldn't possibly be any easier.  I didn't even measure anything.  Just dropped shakes of brown sugar and cinnamon, and voila!  I tasted the baked apples before adding the sugar and cinnamon, and they were yummy just as is, but Andrew insisted that I add the extra ingredients.  Even better!

Here are my apples post baking

And post mixing...soooo yummy!

I was so excited to see a huge stash of apples in this week's basket. I can't wait to make the applesauce again! Or maybe I'll give this recipe a try.
